I’ve become a massive fan of Evernote and really think they are on to something, so I’m looking forward to seeing what Google (Keep) can do in this space.

The reason I’m backing Evernote (or perhaps Keep) is that we all generate so many thoughts about the things we see or possess… These may be one-time opinions, they may be ideas, they may just be snapshots of data.

Evernote is the central place where most of my thoughts and links and things can be stored and found right now. Given we can automate this process too (perhaps Evernote need to push their API a little harder ;D), I really can imagine a central repository becoming our centre for the internet of things - but who will own it? :)

When you see the worst of something, sometimes you want to know the best as well. Now you can! How? Well, all you gotta do is topsy-turvy that motherfckr. A small arrow on the upper right corner lets you know that a best or worst list has an equal and opposite list. You gotta flip it.

For those who have read up on this (Amen vs. Gründerszene) spat, it is interesting to see that despite some valid points from Gründerszene, Joel Kaczmarek is clearly willing this startup to fail based on his personal beef with Felix… The statement from Joel that the article was planned for a long time shows that this is BS - why would he have argued to post this particular post earlier? Would these statistics have been available? Clearly NOT…

I believe in Amen (so I’m bound to side with them) and would love to see it integrated into Places pages or online shopping portals one day, thanks to it’s no-nonsense approach to letting people express themselves - I mean, who has time to read full reviews? Associated Amens would give me much more info and perhaps I could Amen or Hell No a statement after checking into a place or buying a product. This is the big difference to something like Twitter and it really gives them an edge in terms of making something of the service and, more importantly, making money!

My message to Joel - get off your downer, because if you want to be writing about anything in the future, you depend on the success of guys like these… They keep you in a job!

What is happening to the online streaming market? It seems to be falling apart…

I didn’t think that things were looking up for Netflix before the silly spin-off idea and backtrack, but now I believe that their top man may have his days numbered with this latest one.

I am no expert on the industry, but Reed Hastings latest move looks like a massive risk.

Essentially Netflix is looking to become a modern web based broadcaster by the sounds of things… OK, so you don’t have to tune in at a certain time to see X, Y or Z, but the rest is just the same. With this model, a Netflix customer will need to trust the company to procure the best content, just as they do broadcasters - broadcasters, who have built their reputations over many years, years of backing projects at early stages to get the rights to the resulting content and hoping to make enough money to buy in the rights of the content they didn’t back.

It does seem bizarre… who knows, perhaps this is a new democratic leadership style - suggest something, let the people decide by quitting and then roll-back… Am I the only one to think that they’re losing it over at Netflix?

Wow! Have you ever wondered how people capture a certain moment with what seems like the perfect focal point? I definitely have! I like to say to myself that luck is involved… that way I feel better about my own crappy attempts to capture the moment :)

Lytro is now going to change that.

Of course people can manipulate photos, but average Joe probably lacks the motivation, not to mention the skill-set.

Perhaps Lytro is also going to change that!

Great new features from Apple… but could they have underestimated how much of a status symbol having the latest iPhone is?

This is quite a brave move from Apple - this will probably not be an upgrade candidate for iPhone 4 users, but perhaps it will keep the momentum up until the big 5 comes along!

I couldn’t agree more with Marco Arment on this one. The new iPhone seems to me to be a great improvement, and I’m more than happy they haven’t pointlessly put it in a newer, uglier box.

Things have certainly started to heat up in the fight for the title of Number 1 Social Network… In recent weeks Facebook has been rolling out new features that are clearly reactions to Google+ and here is what I think about it!

First of all. Hats off to Facebook! The guys are clearly following the inspiring ‘release-often-and-break-stuff’ signs that they have on the walls of their offices - this is warp speed ‘me-too’ feature development we have going on here!

Smart lists that are quite smart!

Google+ has made classifying your contacts into different groups so simple… however, Facebook’s response could be considered simpler. Despite list creation being a more manual process, Facebook have made use of the fact that they can suggest people for lists based on who your friends have in their lists, based on relationships or based on groups that people belong too. Quite a nice touch, but, as is often the case with Facebook, you have to wonder how much of your list data is shared with the outside world through this trickery.

Subscribe… if you can’t do it better copy it.

Creating the asynchronous relationship has not resulted in such an elegant solution. Facebook seems to have decided that they MUST compete with Google+ on features and as such are now also competing with Twitter - who they are now friends with, probably so that they can compete against Google+… anyone else dizzy? Regardless, the result is a ~~follow~~ subscribe button and, despite the usefulness of it, more clutter…

F8 can’t come quick enough.

If you are like me and enjoy the simplicity and integrated feeling of Google+, but find that you’re still having to switch to Facebook to talk to the people you know, then you’ll be happy to hear that Facebook are cooking something up… Rumours of a complete revamp of profiles are welcomed, yet I still fear that Facebook may fail to simplify - the words “read”, “listened” and “watched” are being used a lot in association with the like button… sounds like more clutter to me!

The user benefits, eventually.

Whether or not Facebook will get it right for their next release is impossible to know, however, there is proof that they can iterate fast, there is also proof that they are willing to backtrack and change their minds, and so, eventually the user will get what they want.

P.S. Waiting for Google+ Circle Intersections (boolean logic ands and ors) as they try to give people even more “control” in response :)

UPDATE: Top Stories? Geez Facebook!?! Please get your nose out of my feed! I sure hope that the ‘redesign’ we’re waiting for has a setting to turn that crap off!
